East Devon covers an approximately triangular area from Axminster in the east to Cullompton in the north. East Devon boundary then follows the M5 west down to Exeter and the seashore back east to Axminster. Within this triangle are the towns of Honiton, Sidmouth, Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Ottery St Mary, Seaton and Colyton as well as miles of wonderful coastline and acres of magnificent countryside.

A popular favourite family day out is to Bicton Park. It’s historic 18th Century gardens, beautiful trees and 21st century facilities. Packed with things to look at and there's plenty for everyone.

Crealy is another good choice for younger children. It’s a 'theme park' type attraction, there are still things that older children and parents can do.

Escot, near Ottery St Mary is a great family day out. They've got nature trails, wild boar, birds of prey, otters, a maze and Pirate play area plus a shop and excellent tea-rooms where you can have lunch or just a cup of tea and a snack. You can also try your hand at letterboxing while you're there. Set in 200 acres of parkland Escot is open every day from 10am with lots of new attractions and updated features for 2012.

The Jurassic Coast can be enjoyed along the whole of the East Devon coastline. Spectacular views by 'hopping on' one of the regular double decker buses that run along the whole length.

Pecorama near Beer is a large exhibition for model railway enthusiasts of all ages. While you’re there you can also take a ride on the narrow gauge railway and see the lovely gardens.

The Seaton Tramway first opened in August 1970 and the final extension to Colyton was opened in 1980. You have the opportunity to ride on a tram through some beautiful East Devon countryside as well as learning about the history of trams as a form of transportation. Open daily until the end of October.

If you like animals then the Donkey Sanctuary at Slade House Farm, near Sidmouth should make a great family day out.
