The home counties is a popular term which generally refers to the counties
of South East England and the East of England which border London, but do
not include the capital city of London itself. There is no exact definition
of the term home counties and its composition of counties, usually includes
the South East of England.
The Home Counties consists of Counties around London in (1921): Buckinghamshire,
Essex, . Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Middlesex, . Kent,7. Surrey, Sussex (East),
Sussex (West).
The Home Counties, surrounding London, have their own unique identities
and character, whilst also offering fast rail and road links into The Capital
City of London. Spectacular countryside Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty
for walking and cycling, the Surrey Hills and the Chilterns spread across
Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
For the boating enthusiast, there are numerous opportunities on offer, for
boating and narrowboat holidays on canals and rivers which feature in the
area from the Rivers Thames and Kennet in Berkshire to the Lee Navigation
in Hertfordshire, the Great Ouse in Bedfordshire and Wey Navigation in Surrey.
