Banham

Set in lovely rural surroundings, these former barns have been lovingly restored to retain their character and charm and provide comfortable holiday accommodation. With shared use of the indoor heated swimming-pool with spa, Jacuzzi and changing rooms, the cottages offer a warm welcome at any time of year. Formerly an old foundry, Brick Yard Farm comprises a 10-acre site with fenced pond, old brick ruins, the owner's home and a small private camping park. The grounds are open to guests, and children are welcome to visit the farm animals and grazing miniature ponies. Each cottage has its own courtyard seating area and access to a shared barbecue and seating area. Banham Zoo with Tarzan tower adventure play area and safari roadtrain is within easy walking distance and Bressingham steam museum and gardens (6 miles) offers 5 miles of steam railway rides set amongst 12 acres of glorious gardens. Thetford Forest (12 miles) is ideal for walking, cycling and picnics, with its Peddars Way footpath and national cycle route. The addition of marked forest walks, wildlife hides and recreational facilities has resulted in a pleasant venue for visitors, with the High Lodge Forest Centre being the place where trail maps can be obtained and bicycles hired. North-west of the Forest lies the National Trust property of Oxburgh Hall - a fine example of a Tudor manor house, complete with moat. Built by the Bedingfield family in 1482 (who still live here), the rooms reveal a progressive trend from medieval austerity to neo-Gothic Victorian comfort, with an impressive work of embroidery on display, worked by Mary Queen of Scots and Bess of Hardwick. Outside, the gardens feature a walled orchard, kitchen garden and French parterre. Built in the 17th century, Euston Hall is also close by and of interest, being the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Grafton. Whilst boasting a large collection of family portraits by such artists as Van Dyck, Stubbs and Lely, it is mainly the grounds outside that capture attention - having been created by none other than Capability Brown and John Evelyn. The North Norfolk Coastline with sandy beaches and nature and bird reserves is within touring distance, and the Norfolk Broads can be reached within an hour, as can Norwich for excellent shopping and the castle museum. Snetterton 4 miles. Pub 1/2 mile.
