Faringdon

Nestling in an olde worlde village on the edge of the Cotswolds between Oxford and Swindon, this spacious, attractive, thatched cottage provides a peaceful, idyllic base for touring this beautiful area. Stylish and comfortable, the detached property has a wealth of features including beams, inglenook fireplaces, wooden floors and exposed brick walls, along with contemporary bathrooms and kitchen to offer modern convenience. <br />The village of Woolstone is within walking distance of one of Britain&rsquo;s oldest white horse hill figures, with views from here over to Dragon Hill, said to be the site where St George slew the dragon. This site is also close to the ancient track of the ridgeway and the earthwork known as Uffington Castle, and is an ideal area for walking and cycling. Nearby Uffington boasts a museum dedicated to Tom Brown&rsquo;s school days, and Faringdon is a small village with a 17th century town hall set on columns and an imposing church. Here visitors will also find The Great Barn (NT), a 152ft long tithe barn built by monks in 1250. Wantage is also worth a visit with its historic market square and 17th century buildings. A visit to the university city of Oxford is a must, with its famous dreaming spires and eclectic mix of English architecture, and an ideal afternoon spent punting along the river.
